The Sanibel Historical Museum & Village’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Mark Harmon. We are fortunate to have him join us.

Mark Harmon comes to us with over 30 years of experience in museums, working for nonprofit organizations and local government agencies. He began his career in his native state of Ohio, where he also earned his BA and MA in History at the University of Akron. Mark spent most of his professional life in suburban Chicago, managing local history museums and a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Mark and his wife, Gina, eventually found their way to Florida in 2017 and moved to Bonita Springs in 2020.

Mark has considerable experience with historic preservation, exhibition, and program development and managing museums with public-private partnerships.

“The Sanibel Historical Museum & Village has a rich history and an incredible collection of buildings and exhibits,” says Mark Harmon. “I’m excited to work with the Board and our dedicated volunteers in transitioning the museum into its next phase. Together, we’ll continue to inspire island visitors and our community with an outstanding historical and educational experience.”

The Board and our volunteers look forward to working closely with Mark in this exciting new chapter. To reach out to Mark Harmon, you can contact him at the museum during weekdays at 239-472-4648 or by email at mark@sanibelmuseum.org.
