A SANIBEL ’70’s CHRISTMAS FREE EVENT AT THE HISTORICAL VILLAGE
November 21, 2018 – The Sanibel Historical Village’s free Luminary event on December 7, from 3:30 to 5:30 will celebrate “A Sanibel ’70s Christmas: Change Comes Riding In.”
“Our event will celebrate both the holiday season and the important events that occurred on the island in the 1970s,” said executive director Emilie Alfino. “This event is our chance to give back to the community and gives visitors a chance to see the museum at no cost.”
Emphasis will be on the historic vote to incorporate Sanibel as a city, and on the shared-use paths that started in the 1970s. “Also celebrated will be the accomplishments of the Sanibel women of the era, as well as some fun Christmas trappings,” said event co-chair Bonnie Frankel.
The Old Post Office decorated for Christmas last year. Some people took pictures to use for their Christmas cards.
The Sanibel Community Chorus will perform at 4:00, caroling in the old-fashioned way throughout the village.
“There will be a drawing for prizes using the ballots attendees fill out and, of course, plenty of homemade cookies,” Frankel added.
Event co-chair and board member Judy Addison said, “This is something we love to do for the community. Luminary gives us the perfect chance to say ‘thank you’ to all our friends and neighbors who offer us so much support throughout the year.”
The Historical Village is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The village is located at 950 Dunlop Road (next to BIG ARTS). Admission is $10 for adults 18 and older; those under 18 and members are free. Docent-guided tours are available at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at no extra charge, based upon docent availability.
