A LOOK AT THE UPCOMING YEAR AT THE HISTORICAL VILLAGE

October 12, 2021 – The Sanibel Historical Museum & Village has a full schedule of events coming up this season. There will be a special holiday exhibit, “Trees, Timelines & Special Memories,” featuring holiday decorations, timelines outlining each building’s past and including interesting, little-known facts. Then there will be a special Luminary event for the community, with free admission from 3:00 to 5:00.

The new pavilion will be open in December featuring a large timeline showing world events and Sanibel events as well as historical photographs. “The pavilion will be a wonderful place to gather our tour groups and can serve as a place for small group events,” said Executive Director Emilie Alfino.

Three Volunteer Update talks and two Twilight Talks are scheduled. The highlight of the season will be the Gala Movie Premiere on February 22 (2/22/22) at The Community House. There, people can see the full-length movie, “Secrets and Stories of the Sanibel Lighthouse,” which presents not only many interesting stories about the history of the lighthouse but also about Sanibel. The movie contains never-before-seen videos and many interesting stories.

The Volunteer Updates, open to all volunteers and to donors at the $150 level and above, are January 10 (“The State of Our Village”; February 7 (“Our Buildings Have a Past”); and March 7 (“Growing Up on the Bay”). Each talk will feature well-known island icons speaking about their experiences. These talks are at noon in Shore Haven at the Historical Village.

On March 15 the first of two Twilight Talks will be presented at The Community House: “The History of Tarpon Bay.” The Second, on April 5, is “God and Sanibel: The History of Religion on Sanibel.” Both talks take place at The Community House at 7 p.m.

The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village opens for season October 19. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In accordance with the city of Sanibel’s regulations, masks are required inside the buildings. Full guided tours are available only if reserved in advance for groups of no more than six, depending on docent availability. This precautionary measure is due to COVID-19. “We hope to be able to resume our regular tours, at 10:30 and 1:30, as soon as possible and within safety guidelines,” Alfino said.
